It’s fine Pak didn’t make the Semis this time but the jokes are just going a bit too far.
If we compare records, India has made it to the semis in 7 WCs and Pak has made it 6 times (including 2019).
Relishing our success is one thing, but relishing another’s lack of it is quite distasteful honestly. I certainly understand it is all in pure jest but in my 2 cent opinion it seems to be going a bit too far. (None of this is directed at any individuals btw, nor is it a personal remark, just a general observation).
I don’t want to sound all preachy. Nevertheless, I will still say it. I honestly and sincerely think Pak is a very misunderstood country and Pakis a misunderstood people (at least among a very large number of Indians). (Many) Indians love to hate Pakistan. In Pakistan’s failure, many Indians find joy and celebration. For example, in cricket, victory over Pakistan is considered to be greater glory than winning the championship.
I’m not saying this lightly. I have formed this opinion after many many years. Over the years, many Pakis were my classmates, and then colleagues. I saw many Paki TV shows, their music via Coke Studio and from their interviews, the people behind them. With the internet, our access is far beyond what we’re told or what we’re led to believe about them.
I think like any other country, there are many ills that plague the country, but then it has many bright sides to it. Many very bright individuals who are forward-thinking and creative.
I have concluded that I don’t need to hate that country or treat them (Pakistanis) as enemies.
They’re our siblings - born from the same undivided mother India. And in their progress, we must find joy. If they progress in all respects, the subcontinent will be a happier place. The influence of rogue elements will eventually diminish. We don’t need to hate the country for the actions of a few or more than a few. We must certainly not hate another country because we are told to do so. Our love or hate must be our own decision. We must dare to unafraidly think different.
